Workshops

Three parallel workshops will be held on Tuesday 9th December 2008, at the same location in Nice. For each workshop, registration is limited to 75 attendees, due to space limitations.

1. Active distribution system management for integration of Distributed resources – research, development and Demonstration needs
This workshop organized by the Electric Power Research Institute in conjunction with the Smart Grid Demonstrations Initiative provides an overview of international experience and projects in the implementation of active distribution networks (distribution networks designed for integration and management of distributed resources as part of the distribution system operation) and microgrids.

Registration and logistics details: Lisa Wolfenbarger, LWolfenbarger@epri.com. Technical issues:
Mark McGranaghan, mmcgranaghan@epri.com or Angela Chuang, achuang@epri.com.

2. International workshop on Grid Inverters, coordinated by Jens Merten, DERlab
This workshop follows the DERlab workshop (December 2006) to draft the International White Book on Grid Inverters. Four topics will be discussed:
Behaviour under fault conditions                     Energy management
Communication and Control                              Ancillary Services

The workshop outcomes available to participants will serve as an input tothe Standardisation Committee on Grid Inverters. More information
Registration: workshops@der-lab.net - Contact: Jens Merten, jens.merten@cea.fr.

3. International workshop on the Contribution of Domestic Appliances to the Integration of Renewables and DER by Liv Becker, Smart-A project
This workshop is the first public discussion of results from the “Smart-A” project (Smart Domestic Appliances in Sustainable Energy Systems). Workshop participants will receive presentations on synergies arising from coordinating energy demand of domestic appliances with local sustainable energy generation and with future requirements of load management in electricity networks. The potential contribution of load management by smart appliances to help integrating high shares of Renewables and DER into both the electricity system and local energy systems will then be openly debated.
